Kajabi Newsletter vs Email Broadcast: What's the Difference and Which Do You Need?

One of my favourite things about working with people who come from a therapeutic background is that they ask really precise questions. Not 'how do I do email' but 'wait, what's the difference between a Newsletter and a Broadcast in Kajabi, and which one should I be using?'
That question, in various forms, has come up so often that it's earned its own dedicated issue. Let's get precise.
Kajabi Newsletters vs Email Broadcasts: What's the Difference?
Kajabi has two distinct email tools. They look similar on the surface but serve different purposes.
What is a Kajabi Email Broadcast?
A Kajabi Email Broadcast is a one-off email sent to a segment of your contact list. You write it, you schedule it or send it immediately, and that's that.
Use broadcasts for: announcements, promotions, event invitations, programme launches, or anything time-sensitive that isn't part of a regular publishing rhythm.
What is a Kajabi Newsletter?
A Kajabi Newsletter is a product in its own right. It's more like a publication than a single email. Subscribers opt in specifically to receive your newsletter (rather than just being on your general contact list), and they can browse past issues online, like a digital magazine.
Use newsletters for: a regular content publication with its own brand identity, something you want to be discoverable via search engines, and content you want to build into an archive over time.
The Techy Therapist (this very issue you're reading) is a Kajabi Newsletter product. It lives at its own URL, new subscribers can browse past issues, and it's built for regular, ongoing publishing rather than one-off sends.
Which One Do You Need?
If you want to stay in touch with your list occasionally with updates and promotions, Broadcasts are probably enough to start. If you want to build a regular content platform with its own audience and identity, a Newsletter product is worth setting up. Many people end up using both.
