Welcome to The Techy Therapist

A few weeks ago, I sat down with a client, a brilliant therapist who has been in private practice for over twenty years, and watched her face fall as she opened her Kajabi dashboard. "Jo-Anne," she said, "I don't even know where to look." And honestly? I completely understood. Because Kajabi is extraordinary, but it can feel like someone handed you the keys to a spaceship when all you wanted was a bicycle.

That moment is exactly why this newsletter exists.

Welcome to The Techy Therapist, a fortnightly newsletter for people who are building their online practice on Kajabi (or elsewhere) and occasionally want to throw the laptop out the window. (No judgement. I've been there.)

Every two weeks, I'll be landing in your inbox with one focused, practical thing: a feature you might have missed, a tip that saves you an hour, a new Kajabi update translated from tech-speak into plain English. No overwhelm. No pressure to implement seventeen things before Tuesday. Just one thing, done properly.

I'm Jo-Anne Mac Millan. I'm a certified Kajabi Expert, a transpersonal therapist, and I've been living inside this platform since 2014. My clients are therapists, coaches, healers, and educators who want to move their practices online without losing their minds in the process. I call it "where the therapist meets the tech-junkie," and yes, I do mean both of those things equally.

Here's what I know about you: you didn't get into your work because you love technology. You got into it because you love people, and you have something genuinely valuable to offer them. The tech is just supposed to be the vehicle. So when the vehicle starts to feel more complicated than the journey itself, something has gone wrong.

That's what this newsletter is here to fix. Not all at once (that would be very un-therapist of me), but one small thing at a time.

Before I go... I'd love to know where you're at with Kajabi right now. Are you just starting out and not sure where to begin? Somewhere in the middle with a half-built site gathering virtual dust? Or are you up and running but quietly overwhelmed by everything you feel you should be doing? Hit reply and tell me. No wrong answers, and I read every single one.

Until next time,

Jo-Anne

The Best Kajabi Automation to Set Up First (and How to Do It)
I once watched a therapist manually send a welcome email to every new client who signed up to her online programme. One by one. Copy, paste, personalise a tiny bit, send. She was doing this at 10pm on a Tuesday, after a full day of client sessions. When I showed her what Kajabi's automation could do instead, she went a bit quiet for a moment and then said, 'I've been doing that for eight mon...
Kajabi AI Tools Explained: What They Actually Do (and What You Can Ignore for Now)
A client emailed me in a mild panic. She'd spotted something about Kajabi's AI features in a Facebook group and was convinced she'd need to learn a whole new set of tools before she could even think about launching. 'Is my whole site going to change?' she asked. Not quite. But there's a lot more happening on the AI front than there was even a year ago, and some of it is genuinely brilliant. Le...
What Do I Actually Need to Set Up on Kajabi First? (The Only 3 Things That Matter)
Right, so. You've signed up for Kajabi. Possibly at some ungodly hour when you were feeling brave and optimistic, and now it's the next morning, and you're staring at the dashboard, wondering what on earth you were thinking. Sound familiar? Welcome to the club. It's a big club. I've been in it myself, and I've sat with many a client in exactly that moment. The good news: most of what feels o...
